What better way to kick off the 2025 outdoor season than with a classic President vs Captain showdown? Spirits were high, the sun made a few cheeky appearances, and the green buzzed with excitement as six rinks took to battle in this traditional club curtain-raiser.
And what a match it was! After 18 ends of great play, tactical shots, and a fair amount of friendly banter, it was the Captain’s team who edged ahead with an overall victory of 99 shots to 90. Here’s how the drama unfolded across the rinks:
🔹 Rink Results
Rink 1 – A. Maires (President’s side) took on A. Smith, but the Captain’s troops came out strong with a 25-10 win.
Rink 2 – C. Poole led a fine performance despite being a player down and secured a cracking 19-9 win over J. Hughes, putting the President’s side back on track.
Rink 3 – D. Maries and J. Harris couldn’t be separated, battling to a nail-biting 14-14 draw.
Rink 4 – P. Wadland faced stiff opposition from R. Maries, whose accurate draw shots earned the Captain’s side a commanding 21-10 win.
Rink 5 – It was a close one! M. Kelly just edged out D. Ellicott with a narrow 19-18 win for the President’s crew.
Rink 6 – M. Smith put on a solid show for the President, rounding things off with a 18-12 win over K. Finch.

President’s Team: 90 shots
Captain’s Team: 99 shots
So while the Captain walks away with the early bragging rights, the President’s side certainly showed there’s fire in the belly—and this looks to be the start of a thrilling season!
